Church plans toy giveaway
Central Christian Church will host a toy giveaway for children in under-resourced families 3:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church, 1001 New Beginnings Drive in Henderson.
Central will give away more than 200 toys to children across the valley who may not have any toys this Christmas.

Police to give commendations
Henderson Police will hold the second annual commendation ceremony 7 p.m. Monday at Henderson City Council Chambers, 240 S. Water St., to honor several citizens and officers for their contribution to the community.
Chief Michael Mayberry will award the commendations to the men and women of the police department and the residents who have gone above and beyond in serving the community.

Mentoring program planned in January
Parents, youth, mentors and all who work with or desire to work with youth are invited to participate in a mini fair, "Mentoring Above and Beyond 2005," scheduled to run Jan. 4 through Jan. 31 in the foyer of the Sawyer State Office Building, 555 E. Washington Ave.
Learn about mentor programs and volunteer opportunities for youth and adults in the community. Information about mentoring agencies will be on display.

UNLV's Winter 2004 Commencement
will begin at 4 p.m. Monday at the Thomas & Mack Center. Students participating in the graduation ceremony should report by 3 p.m. to the Cox Pavilion. For more information, call 895-3229.
Ice skaters from the Las Vegas Figure Skating Club,
Skating Club of Nevada and students from the Fiesta Rancho Ice Arena Skating School will hold an amateur ice show featuring some of the youngest beginner skaters all the way up to best national competitors 4:30 p.m.- 6 p.m. Sunday at Fiesta Ice Arena at the Fiesta, 2400 N. Rancho Drive. The pre-show recital will be held from 6-7 p.m. Friday. Admission is free. For more information, call 696-1999.
