Columnist Barb Henderson: Two television shows bring outdoors into living rooms

Barb Henderson is an outdoors enthusiast, freelance writer and producer/host of outdoors radio television programming. Her column appears Friday in the Sun.
I'd like to share with you two new adventures that I am enjoying as the host of television shows geared toward the great outdoors and a western way of life in Las Vegas.
The adventure began when Vegas 35 TV program director Trip Mitchell contacted me this past summer and inquired if there might be interest in my being a show host for an outdoor show.
The show began one week later.
For the most part, when people think about Las Vegas, the glitter of lights twinkling in the night comes to mind. But surrounding the excitement found within this big city, there's a multitude of recreational opportunities.
Most of you already know that Southern Nevada has wonderful outdoor recreation areas, and with such a variety of outdoorsy material right in our own back yard, show topics are easily accessible.
"Hooked on the Outdoors With Barb," which airs at 6 p.m. Wednesdays, is a one-hour informational program that has already won popularity with some local sportsmen and sportswomen.
On occasion, the show is done outdoors.
The guest and show topics cover many of the outdoor recreational opportunities available in the area, including shooting sports, hunting, fishing, boating and camping.
More important, the program allows special guests, many of whom represent some of the local outdoors organizations in the Las Vegas Valley, an avenue to share information about their mission and what they're all about while offering new residents information about clubs, organizations and activities.
Among those who have already been special guests: the Las Vegas Bird Dog Club, the Lake Mead Boat Owners Association, the Las Vegas Chapter of Ducks Unlimited, Nevada Paralyzed Veterans of America, Nevada State Parks, Las Vegas Metro Search and Rescue, the Nevada Department of Wildlife, the Outside Las Vegas Foundation, the Fraternity of the Desert Bighorn, Spring Mountains Volunteer Association, Nevada Safe Boating, the U.S. Forest Service, Smokey Bear, Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort, Las Vegas Hunting Retriever Club, Southern Nevada Gem and Mineral Society, Nevada Cowboy Action Shooters, Spring Mountain Free Trappers, Lake Mead National Recreation Area, the National Park Service and others.
"Saddle Up With Barb," another television studio program on Vegas 35, airs at 10 a.m. Tuesdays.
If you are a Las Vegas resident or visitor who has a hankering for ranching, farming, agriculture, cowboy poetry, cowboy action shooting, horses, trail-cooking, rodeos or just relaxing along a trail, you may find this show to be of interest.
"Saddle Up With Barb" has special guests that include local cowboys, cowgirls, country singers, authors, cowboy cookin', farmers, ranchers, farm animals, horse events, rodeos, horseback riding and more.
