Man arrested in fatal shooting

Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004 | 9:55 a.m.

A 28-year-old man is charged with murder in Wednesday night's fatal shooting of a 20-year-old man in eastern Las Vegas, authorities said.

The dead man, whose name was not released this morning, had been shot in the head.

Officers were called to the 5600 block of Sammis Avenue near East Charleston Boulevard and Linn Lane at 5 p.m.

A 16-year-old girl called 911 and said she had been tied up at a house and her boyfriend had been shot, police said.

Witnesses identified Josh Ackerman as the gunman and patrol officers found Ackerman not far from the shooting, near Stewart Avenue at Nellis Boulevard, Metro Police Lt. Tom Monahan said.

Pete Glowczewski, a Las Vegas construction worker, said he has lived at the corner of Sammis and Dolorosa Street, a block from the house where the shooting occurred, for 22 years.

"The family had kids and little ones hanging around there," Glowczewski said. "There never was any trouble there before now."

Glowczewski said he arrived home from work and couldn't park his pickup truck in the driveway because of police had cordoned off that section of Sammis.
