Mississippi approves planned merger of Vegas gaming giants

Two Las Vegas gaming giants cleared another hurdle in their merger deal today when the Mississippi Gaming Commission approved a series of actions involving MGM Mirage and Mandalay Resort Group.
Meeting this morning in Jackson, Miss., the commission authorized several suitability applications and approvals for Beau Rivage Resorts Inc., and Circus Circus Mississippi Inc., whose parent companies are part of a $7.9 billion merger deal.
Late last week, Mandalay Resort Group shareholders approved the merger, which is expected to be completed by the end of March. The deal still needs approval from federal regulatory agencies as well as gaming regulators in several states.
The companies said in filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission last month that they have complied with most of the requests for information from the Federal Trade Commission.
The deal was announced in July.
