Summer program set for students

The Davidson Institute is announcing the 2005 THINK Summer, a three-week summer residential program for seventh, eighth and ninth graders from Nevada to earn transferable college credits at UNR during July 2005.

Interested students must register now to take the ACT and SAT on one of the few remaining test dates before the application deadline of March 1, 2005, if they have not taken the tests in the past.

Planned Parenthood of Southern Nevada,

3220 W. Charleston Blvd., will be providing free annual exams, which include clinical breast exams and Pap tests to women under 40 who are uninsured and not covered by other programs (Spanish-speaking staff are available). The free exam program will expire in June 2005. Call 878-7776 for more information.

The American Public Works Association

will hold a holiday luncheon 10:30 a.m. Friday for students at Reynaldo Martinez Center, 2901 Harris Ave., and a holiday party 5:30 p.m. Monday for students in the Teeny Tots Program at West Community Center, 2050 Sapphire Stone. APWA members will help with the distribution of the toys that were collected during the holiday toy drive. For more information call 229-6581.

Shadow Hills Baptist Church,

7811 W. Vegas Drive, will present the musical "Joy" 6:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday at the church. Admission is free. And free child care is offered for children Pre-K and younger. For additional information, call 880-7811.

Consumer Credit Counseling Service

is offering "Making Ends Meet and Dreams Come True," a free class that starts 6 p.m. Thursday in the CCCS Conference Center, 2650 S. Jones Blvd. Participants will learn methods to organize spending, reduce debt, and maintain a good credit history without making costly or hazardous mistakes. To register, call 364-0344.

Free blood pressure screenings

will be offered to seniors 10 a.m.-11 a.m. Tuesdays at MountainView Senior Friends, 8524 Del Webb Blvd. For more information, call 255-5404.

Warm Springs Baptist Church,

2075 E. Warm Springs Road, will host its 2004 Christmas Fest from 1 p.m. 5 p.m. Saturday at the church. Hosted and organized by the youth and children's department, the free event will include hot air balloon rides, food, carnival games, entertainment and inflatable games. In addition, snow will be trucked from Mount Charleston to create a sledding hill in the church parking lot. Children planning to sled should dress appropriately. Sledding equipment will be provided.
