Fishing report: Good fall fishing for trout, stripers despite the chill

NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE

The action for stripers continues to be good in the Las Vegas Wash area where boaters are catching the fish with live shad. Shore fishing has been fair in the Boulder Basin for those fishing in the vicinity of the fishing dock.

Several stripers weighing more than 5 pounds have been caught recently with top water lures cast from shore along Special Events Beach. Two boaters who were fishing in the Overton Arm on Sunday caught 18 plump stripers that ranged from 20 to 22 inches by trolling near Stewart's Point. Baits they used were Sassy Shad lures and an anchovy placed behind a spinner.

On Saturday, two boaters told Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) creel census clerks that they caught and released six largemouth bass at St. Thomas.

Fishing has been good following the rainbow trout plants, and a number of anglers have reported to NDOW that they have taken five fish limits. Plants were scheduled for today at Hemenway, Horsepower, North Saddle and Pumphouse coves.

Drifting and trolling with anchovies have been the methods for catching fish that range from a pound to nearly 2 pounds.

NDOW planned to stock rainbow trout today at Power Line Cove. Trout will be stocked on Friday, Dec. 17, at Placer Cove, Cottonwood Cove and Willow Beach.
