Letter: Politicians in no position to hear Augustine’s case
Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004 | 9:23 a.m.
I read with interest your Dec. 6 story headlined, "Prosecutor says jury should have heard case." The story was about the impeachment trial of Controller Kathy Augustine, and prosecutor Dan Greco's remark that Augustine's conduct "would have offended a lay jury more than the Senate." His view was right on target.
Some of the politicians sitting in judgment of Augustine may be guilty of the same or other unethical activities; having these people act as her jury is the same as having a thief being judged by a band of other thieves.
Elected officials work for the people and must answer to us. Let voters, not their fellow politicians, stand in judgment of them.
