Letter: Sex education is better at home
Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004 | 9:13 a.m.
In her Dec. 3 letter, Donna Coleman wrote that here in Las Vegas, schools do not do enough to educate our children about sex. She continued on to say that, like it or not, parents, your children are having sex. There is no doubt in my mind that she is correct on that point. But some parents think that sex should be addressed in the home. They don't want their teachers addressing this very personal subject just because a lot of parents are shirking their responsibilities and letting everyone else teach their kids about this very important family responsibility.
She continues on to say that if parents don't want their children learning about sex at school, they should send their kids to private school so they don't have to have sex education. Perhaps she could persuade some of her old allies on the State Board of Education to give these parents vouchers, so they don't have to pay both their children's tuition and her children's tuition.
