Grandmother had dead woman’s son

The mother who was found dead in her North Las Vegas apartment had dropped her 4-year-old son off about a month ago at the child's grandmother's house in Las Vegas and never returned to pick him up, police said.
Police discovered Felecia Crosby dead in her apartment on Monday, then publicly pleaded for information on Denzel Crosby, who they believed lived in the apartment in the Buena Vista Springs apartment complex at 2531 Morton Ave.
Officer Sean Walker, police spokesman, said the arrangements between Crosby and the boy's grandmother aren't clear, and police don't know why authorities weren't notified when Felecia Crosby failed to retrieve her son.
"It would seem to be something I would be questioning if I were a member of that family," Walker said.
Investigators managed to track down some of the boy's relatives on the East Coast, who said they knew nothing about Crosby's death or her son's whereabouts.
Police first learned of the grandmother's existence when she called about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday after hearing about the search through the media.
"This is the best-case scenario," Walker said. "He was safe and he was with family members who cared about him."
It's not clear how or when Crosby died or if foul play was involved. Police are awaiting the results of an autopsy.
"We need to leave all of our options open," Walker said.
