Holiday program set for seniors
The Clark County Parks and Community Services' Senior Advocate Program will sponsor the Holidays Around the World senior fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at Paradise Recreation and Community Services Center, 4775 McLeod Drive.
The event will include a fashion show featuring uniformed personnel from Metro Police, Animal Control, utility companies and other agencies who will demonstrate to seniors what to look for if a uniformed official comes to their door, so they will feel comfortable answering the door.
Entertainment will be provided by Ken Levine and Jump, Jive and Wail, and door prizes will be a part of the festivities. For more information, call 455-7051, or online at www.accessclarkcounty.com.
SitSafe Child Passenger Safety Program
is hosting a free child seat inspection event 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Desert Volkswagen, 2025 S. Decatur Blvd. Vehicles of all types and brands are welcome. Call 942-4000.
Phone cards asked for overseas toops
The Southern Nevada Chapter of the American National Red Cross is asking Southern Nevadans to donate 100-minute phone cards for use by service members who are stationed in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait.
The organization will accept contributions of phone cards through Friday. Deliver or mail the cards to the Chapter Office located at 3672 N. Rancho Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89130.
The service members can use the cards to call families and friends during the holiday season and thereafter. For more information, call 791-3311, ext. 3034 or ext. 3022.
Habitat for Humanity
Groundbreaking for the first Habitat for Humanity and Nevada Subcontractors Association home took place Tuesday at 928 Hart Ave. The groundbreaking included elected officials, speakers from Habitat for Humanity and the NSA.
