It's Hero Night at Magical Forest
Opportunity Village will hold its inaugural Hero Night tonight at its Magical Forest.
Military, police and firefighter personnel with identification will be admitted free to the annual holiday celebration at 6300 W. Oakey Blvd., west of Jones Boulevard.
Visitors may sign a giant Christmas card bound with yellow ribbons to be sent to local troops stationed in Iraq.
The Magical Forest is open from 5:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. daily. Call 259-3700.
Shoes for Children concerts scheduled
The 10th annual Shoes for Children benefit concerts will be 1:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Friday at the West Las Vegas Library, 951 W. Lake Mead Blvd.
Each performance will be emceed by Sweet Lou Collins and will feature the directorial work of Walter Mason, presenting Broadway's "The Amen Corner," written by James Baldwin.
Admission to each event is one new pair of children's athletic shoes, sized to fit preschoolers to fifth grade. Donated shoes will benefit neighboring schools, and any surplus will be donated to local charities. Drop-off areas for shoe donations are available now through Dec. 18 at all 12 urban branches of the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District for those unable to attend.

Clothing drive will help area's homeless
Village East Cleaners will hold a clothing drive Wednesday through Dec. 17 to benefit Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada. A free cup of coffee and donuts will be provided for coats and clothes donated before 9 a.m. Wednesday at the 1760 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway location in Henderson.
These other Village East Cleaners locations will accept clothing between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.: 11041 S. Eastern Ave.; 2301 E. Sunset Road; 5025 S. Eastern Ave.
The donated coats and clothes will be given to the homeless and needy men, women, and children seeking assistance from Catholic Charities.

Mail-in registration for classes and workshops
sponsored by Clark County Parks and Community Services will begin Friday for the six-week session beginning Jan. 3. Walk-in registration starts Dec. 20. For more information, call 455-8200.
