In George Will's Nov. 29 column he whines that liberals have taken over academia. As a member of academia, let me provide a cogent reason for the so-called "liberal" monopoly of scholastic institutions.
In academia scholars spend a great deal of time crafting, analyzing and rebutting arguments. Arguments that are sound become accepted interpretations until such time as they are refuted. Arguments that are unsound are refuted and put aside.
So if there is a dearth of conservative scholarship represented in academia, it is because conservative scholars need to work harder at developing and presenting philosophically sound interpretations of the world.
