Despite reports to the contrary, Utah offensive coordinator Mike Sanford is expected to be in Las Vegas today for a second interview with athletic director Mike Hamrick about the school's football coaching job.
Sanford, 49, previously met with Hamrick in Salt Lake City to discuss the position last week. He along with Purdue offensive coordinator Jim Chaney are the two top candidates to replace John Robinson.
Sanford's visit comes despite a report by Salt Lake City TV station KUTV on Tuesday night that he had withdrawn his name from the position. The Salt Lake Tribune newspaper earlier in the day reported that "Sanford had apparently dropped out of contention" for the job.
However, sources told the Sun that Sanford still is very much in contention for the position which could be decided by the end of the week. He also is expected to be a candidate for the University of Utah head coaching position if head coach Urban Meyer heads to Notre Dame or Florida.
