Former Nellis Air Force Base Commander Gerald Sawyer was named chief operating officer for the World Market Center. Sawyer will lead the World Market Center's team and oversee the planning, operations and infrastructure of the $1 billion project.
Sawyer was named 99th base commander in January 2003. In August Sawyer, who served 25 years in the Air Force, was transferred to the Air Warfare Center at Nellis where he was a commander special assistant.
The World Market Center is a home furnishings showroom complex open to the furniture industry. Phase one is under construction and is scheduled to open in July.
