Columnist Muriel Stevens: Spider-Man puts spin on fundraising
Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004 | 8:18 a.m.
Spider-Man is still doing good deeds thanks to his creator, Stan Lee. Twenty-five Spider-Man Crest battery-operated spin brushes have been signed by Lee and will be auctioned on eBay at www.ebay.com/spiderman.
This would be a super addition to any superhero collection and a memorable gift for comic buffs.
The auction began at 5 p.m. Pacific time on Monday and ends at 5 p.m. Pacific time on Dec. 14. All of the auction proceeds will benefit the Oral Health Initiative of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the official charity of Crest Healthy Smiles 2010. The program expects to reach more than 50 million children and their families by 2010.
The timing coincides with the anticipated release of the "Spider-Man 2" DVD. Lee, one of the most recognized names in comic-book history, has signed and numbered each of the toothbrushes. Each toothbrush will arrive with a certificate of authenticity and a Crest Super-Action Liquid Gel toothpaste that features a Spider-Man illustration on the package.
Which Scotch do you give a bourbon fan?: Sound like a strange query? Not if you know the difference between whisky and whiskey.
Consider The Macallan's just-launched 15 Year Old Fine Oak Single Malt and everyone will be happy.
Matured in European oak sherry casks (a 180-year-old tradition) as well as American oak bourbon casks (a complete break of 180 years of tradition), the result is a lighter-style Scotch whisky with flavor components certain to appeal to a bourbon drinker: intense rich chocolate, orange and raisins.
At $65, this is a gift to please both Scotch and bourbon drinkers.
Along Came a Spider: This enchanting children's clothing and furniture store at The District at Green Valley Ranch offers a sensational variety of baby, toddler and children's clothing (up to size 14) that can't be found in other children's shops.
I love this wonderful children's boutique. Such brand names as Juicy Couture, Kenneth Cole, Diesel and Riley are showcased along with unusual finds from Baby Lulu, Flowers by Zoe and Charlie Rocket. Order the custom items well in advance.
Italian shoe designer opens at the Forum Shops: Giuseppe Zanotti in the Forum Shops at Caesars expansion is a knockout. Window displays are dazzling.
The Italian designer is known for his glamorous contemporary designs worn by such celebs as Beyonce Knowles, Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Lopez. Carrie Bradshaw, Sarah Jessica Parker's character in "Sex and the City," wore them, too. They're sexy, bold and today.
Designer Zanotti has been creating luxury footwear for more than 20 years. In addition to Las Vegas, Zanotti has American locations in New York and Miami.
Where to Wear Las Vegas supports Nevada Cancer Institute: Where to Wear shopping guides, considered the insider's fashion bible for such cities as New York, Paris, London, San Francisco and now Las Vegas, will go on sale today at Neiman Marcus in the Fashion Show mall.
Publisher Jill Fairchild will do a book signing at NM from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 9. A total of $1 from the sale of each $14.95 Las Vegas book will benefit Nevada Cancer Institute. A reception for NCI will take place during the book signing.
