Letter: Anti-Kerry ads lack the truth
Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004 | 8:47 a.m.
I am a registered Republican voter who is truly ashamed of the scurrilous, malicious anti-Kerry ads sponsored by the so-called "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth."
This organization is funded by pro-Bush Republicans who have total disdain for the truth. The veterans appearing in these ads were not even on the same boat as Kerry when they served in Vietnam. Furthermore, the U.S. Navy conducted a thorough investigation before awarding any medals to Kerry.
These incidents happened more than 30 years ago. Only now, when the presidential race is in a dead heat, do these obviously embittered veterans make their outrageous charges against Kerry.
John Kerry had the courage to volunteer to serve his country in combat in Vietnam. Where was George W. Bush during this time?
The Bush campaign has conducted one of the most vile and vicious campaigns in recent memory. Instead of trying to win re-election on Bush's record, the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth and similar groups choose to vilify a brave war hero in John Kerry in order to score points with voters. This is a despicable way to run a campaign, especially for the highest office. I hope it backfires on them.
