Food drive to aid Salvation Army
Network of Executive Women in Hospitality Las Vegas is partnering with Albertsons supermarkets on a food drive to benefit the Salvation Army.
The food drive will run the next two weeks at all 39 Southern Nevada Albertsons stores.
To contribute to the "It's in the Bag" promotion, Albertsons bagged $15 worth of nonperishable food items that people can purchase at $9.99 and drop off at a stand for the Salvation Army to pick up.
Fund-raiser to help scholarship fund
Jackie "Moms' Mabley, a fund-raiser comedy, will be held at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road, for the 100 Black Men of Las Vegas' Scholarship Fund.
Tickets are $25 in advance; $30 at the door; $40 for couples in advance; $50 for couples at the door. Children under 12 not allowed. Call 860-2505 or visit www.echowavedesigns.com/moms.
Sloan Canyon cleanup scheduled
The Bureau of Land Management is asking for volunteers to help celebrate National Public Lands Day at Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 18.
This is the first annual National Public Lands Day volunteer cleanup at Sloan Canyon, near Henderson.
Volunteers are needed to clean up shooting range debris, illegal roadside dumps, abandoned vehicles and graffiti. Help is also needed to repair a mine fence.
Hot dogs and chips will be served to all volunteers.

Assembly Speaker Richard Perkins,
D-Henderson, and Assembly Majority Leader Barbara Buckley, D-Las Vegas, will host a reception from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Las Vegas Street of Dreams at McDonald Highlands, 641 St. Croix, Henderson, to benefit the Millennium Assembly Leadership Fund.
