The University of Nevada, Las Vegas was recently selected to receive a $1.5 million grant to enhance training on terrorism for homeland security professionals.
The grant was awarded by the United States Homeland Security Department.
UNLV plans to use the funding to create a "train-the-trainer" program to teach homeland security professionals more about terrorism, including prevention, deterrence, response and recovery, according to Sterling Sadler, a grant writer at UNLV.
The university program was one of 14 selected from more than 217 applications nationwide.
Sadler said the university plans to "get key individuals involved" with planning a curriculum.
"With federal dollars, I truly believe we need to get expert individuals tied in so we don't waste this money," he said.
Sadler said he hopes to get the program started as soon as October.
Once started, the program will be aimed at security officers at hotels, casinos and small businesses, Sadler said.
