Murder trial ordered for man

A 63-year-old man accused of killing a man inside the victim's mobile home near Nellis Air Force Base will stand trial.

Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Douglas Smith ruled Wednesday that Joe Kelly Armstead should be tried on a murder charge in connection with the death of David Leal.

Armstead is scheduled for arraignment before District Judge Valorie Vega on Sept. 9.

Leal was shot inside his mobile home in the 4000 block of Las Vegas Boulevard North about 7:35 p.m. on July 17.

Sex offender to stand trial

A 39-year-old convicted sex offender who is facing charges of sexually assaulting minors will stand trial, Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Robert Sheets ruled on Wednesday.

Steve McNeill is scheduled for arraignment before District Judge John McGroarty on Sept. 1 on charges of sexual assault of a victim under 14, failure to register as a sex offender and two counts of lewdness with a minor.

McNeill, who worked for a moving company, began living at the Nellis Arms complex at 4320 Las Vegas Blvd. North near Nellis Boulevard in March. Authorities allege McNeill committed his alleged crimes on girls' ages 6, 8 and 9 that lived at his housing complex.

McNeill was arrested on July 9 after a 6-year-old girl told her mother McNeill had kissed her, which prompted other minors at the complex to come forward with their own allegations.
