Regulators question lender

Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004 | 11:07 a.m.

In an order issued by the state Mortgage Lending Division, controversial Las Vegas real estate agent and lender Eric R. Alpert has been told to show cause why his mortgage license should not be suspended or revoked and fines imposed.

The order alleges that Alpert submitted to the commission false financial statements for his company, Granite Mortgage & Loan, and that he forged the signature of Las Vegas accountant S. Archie McRimmon Jr. on those documents.

The order also alleges Alpert was using unapproved advertising to promote its business. Alpert could face as much as $30,000 in fines.

Alpert already had his real estate license suspended in June for five years by the state Real Estate Commission in connection with four cases of selling or renting property he did not own or control.
