UNLV's Miller gets three-year extension
Regina Miller, who has coached the UNLV women's basketball team to the postseason for four consecutive years, received a three-year contract extension through the 2007-08 season, the athletic department announced Monday.
"Given the short time I've been here, I'm very pleased with the progress of the women's basketball program under coach Miller," said athletic director Mike Hamrick. "This past season was very rewarding for our players, coach and fans."
The Lady Rebels posted a 26-8 record in 2003-04, the third-best victory total in school history, and finished as the runner-up in the WNIT.
Miller is the third-winningest coach in UNLV women's basketball history and has a 119-61 record since coming to UNLV in 1998 from Western Illinois.
Where's the Cup?
The Stanley Cup disappeared during an Air Canada flight from Vancouver to Fort St. John over the weekend when Vancouver airline officials removed it from the plane because of weight restrictions. Walter Neubrand, keeper of the Cup, was delivering the trophy to Jake Goertzen, head scout for the Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning, in Fort St. John, British Columbia. After a call to Vancouver, NHL officials learned the 35-pound Cup was sitting in the Vancouver airport's luggage area 750 miles away. It was too heavy to fly.
UNR gives nod to Rowe
Sophomore Jeff Rowe has won the competition to be starting quarterback at Nevada-Reno, coach Chris Ault announced. Rowe, the Wolf Pack's starter in 2003, had been battling sophomore Travis Moore and senior Andy Heiser for the job.
Formula One slows
Formula One teams accepted safety measures proposed by the motor sport's ruling body to make cars as much as four seconds a lap slower from next season.
