Letter: Cleaner channels would help lake
Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004 | 9:20 a.m.
Here is a small but meaningful way of coping with the falling level of Lake Mead because of the drought in the state of Colorado: Make sure the channels of the Muddy River and Virgin River, which feed the Overton Arm of Lake Mead in Clark County, are maintained as efficient conduits for water. In addition, make sure all feeders to these rivers are as efficient channels as possible.
Efficiency can be increased by dredging and removing debris, among other efforts. Note that the Mesquite area receives considerable rainfall at times, meaning it can supply the Virgin River with significant runoff.
