Harmon family matriarch Cleo dies

Cleo L. Harmon, founder of the Harley Harmon Insurance Agency and a 61-year resident of Las Vegas, died Friday at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. She was 82.
Harmon, who with her husband, Harley E. Harmon, owned an insurance agency in Las Vegas from 1948 until 1997, was also active in the Junior League, Eastern Star, Assistance League and Mesquite Club. She also was appointed head of the Nevada Safety Council by Gov. Mike O'Callaghan.
Born June 13, 1922, in Chicago, Harmon came to Las Vegas in 1943.
Harmon and her husband, a native of Las Vegas, were honored in the 1980s by St. John's Greek Orthodox Church for their contributions to the development of Las Vegas.
She is survived by sons Harley L. and Jeff Harmon, both of Las Vegas; a sister, Dorthea Rasqui; and five grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Palm Mortuary in downtown Las Vegas.
Services are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Palm Mortuary downtown.
Burial will be at Palm Memorial Park.
The family suggests contributing to the Harley Harmon Elementary School Library.
