Week expected to remain cool
The heat and the thunderstorms stay away from the Las Vegas Valley this week as cooler, windier weather offers a hint of fall temperatures to come, National Weather Service forecasters said.
Sunday's high of 99 degrees will drop to the mid-90s for today, Tuesday and Wednesday.
By Thursday the daytime temperature is expected to reach only 91 degrees, when normal August temperatures climb to 100 degrees.
Breezy conditions could turn windy by Wednesday and Thursday before a warming trend begins by the weekend.
Firefighters save woman from blaze
Las Vegas Fire and Rescue firefighters saved a woman who was trapped inside a bedroom after an apartment caught fire late Saturday night.
Firefighters arrived at the Campaige Place Apartments, on the 200 block of North Eighth Street, about 10:20 p.m. to find one room on fire and a woman inside the room, unable to escape on her own, firefighters said.
The woman was quickly rescued and treated for minor smoke inhalation by paramedics at the scene.
The first and second floors of the apartment building were evacuated and the fire was quickly put out.
Firefighters said the cause of the fire remains under investigation and estimated damages have not yet been determined.
No other injuries were reported.
