Letter: Presidential race too important for name calling

Friday, Aug. 20, 2004 | 4:42 a.m.

WEEKEND EDITION

August 21 - 22, 2004

A question for critics of John Kerry: Is he a "flip-flopper" or the most consistently liberal voter in the Senate? Critics can't have it both ways. They should get their story straight.

Our country is not a playground upon which immature bullies preside by nonsensical name calling. It is a country in need of real leadership by someone who is mature enough to understand the intricacies of being a world power, which go far beyond the childish black-and-white understanding of those who can't leave their childhood where it belongs -- in the schoolyard playground.
