William J. Acklin

William J. Acklin, 88, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born April 29, 1916, in Caliente. A lifelong Nevada resident, he was a retired Union Pacific railroad conductor, grandson of Nevada pioneers and attended high school in Alamo.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta Lea; one son, John Robert Acklin; and one brother, Thomas Edwin Acklin

He is survived by one son, Thomas Charles Acklin; one daughter, Vickie Sue Petrie; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling private arrangements.

Joan M. Burke

Joan M. Burke, 71, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. She was born Aug. 30, 1932, in Kentucky. A resident for 12 years, she was a retired bookkeeper.

She is survived by two sons, Michael Burke and Bill Burke; two daughters, Mary Burke and Teresa Burke; one brother, Richard Burke; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling private arrangements.

Betty L. Evans-Smith

Betty L. Evans-Smith, 71, of Las Vegas died Aug. 4 in Las Vegas. She was born Nov. 9, 1932, in New York. A resident for 25 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, George; four sons, John, Frank, Robert and Daniel; two daughters, Dorothy and Stacy; one brother, Fred Grange; and three sisters, Adalaid Jarvis, Alice Kincaid and Dorothy Hall.

Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling private arrangements.

Neil Eugene Garvin

Neil Eugene Garvin, 53, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born July 7, 1951, in Las Vegas. A lifelong resident, he was a barber.

He is survived by his fiancee, Patti Fitzgerald, and one brother, Noel Garvin, both of Las Vegas; and one sister, Sally Blackwell of San Ramon, Calif.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Trinity Life Center, Assembly of God, 1000 E. St. Louis Ave. Burial will be private. Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

Edith Johnson

Edith Johnson, 72, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. She was born June 28, 1932, in Oklahoma. A resident for many years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by three sons, David Johnson and Terry Johnson, both of Las Vegas, and John Johnson of Colorado; one sister, Linda Horner of Las Vegas; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation was scheduled 1-6 p.m. today in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Services will be 8 a.m. Tuesday in Bunkers Chapel. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Marta Lucido

Marta Lucido, 81, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospice. A homemaker, she was born Jan. 19, 1923, in the Philippines.

She is survived by five children, Minda L. Alillana, Carlito Lucido, Cely Lucido, Patricia Sy and Alfredo Lucido Jr.; and nine grandchildren.

Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St., handled arrangements.

Stephen Albert Mercado

Stephen Albert Mercado, 22, of Las Vegas died Thursday in Las Vegas. A lifelong resident, he was born July 4, 1982.

He is survived by his companion, Lindsay Sears, his mother, Pauline Wilkinson, one brother, Daniel Lee Molina, and one sister, Rose Martinez, all of Las Vegas.

Visitation is scheduled 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Woodlawn Cemetery.

George L. 'Moe' Radovich

George L. "Moe" Radovich, 75, of Las Vegas died June 18 in Las Vegas. He was born May 5, 1929, in Wyoming. A resident for 10 years, he was a former University of Wyoming basketball coach and who played for the school, was inducted into its Hall of Fame inductee, led the Cowboys to a conference title and a top 10 ranking in 1952, was MVP of the Western Regional playoffs and was named to the Helms Foundation All America team, played briefly for the Philadelphia Warriors, coached Sheridan Junior College, Wayne State in Nebraska, was head coach at the University of California, Fullerton, and was an Army lieutenant and Korean War veteran.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara "Bobbie"; two daughters, Tara Radovich and Toby James; one grandson; and two great-grandchildren.

Edna Scheppmann

Edna Scheppmann, 69, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. She was born Nov. 10, 1934, in Alton, Iowa. A resident for 50 years, she was a retired beauty shop owner-operator.

She is survived by her husband, Gene; one daughter, Kimberly Friedman, and three sons, Mark Scheppmann, Brad Scheppmann and Curtis Scheppmann, all of Las Vegas; one sister, Caroline Phelan of Ephraim, Utah; two brothers, Jay Hodapp of Las Vegas and Edward Hodapp of Temecula, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 6 p.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

The family suggests donations to the Nathan Adelson Hospice, 4141 S. Swenson St., Las Vegas, NV 89119.

Walter J. Szumilo

Walter J. Szumilo, 79, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born June 16, 1925, in West Hazleton, Pa. A resident for five years, he was a claims adjuster for an air freight company, a World War II Navy veteran, commander of the Catholic War Veterans, Leo Samborowski Post 252, junior vice commander Drakewear Post 589.

He is survived by five daughters, Veronica Dwyer of New Jersey and Victoria Volz, Stefanie Jackson, Rebecca Halbett and Natasha Szumilo, all of Las Vegas; three sons, Adam Szumilo, Andrew Szumilo and Stephen Szumilo, all of Las Vegas; one sister, Angela Carey, and one brother, Francis Szumilo, both of Pennsylvania; and 17 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 4 p.m. today in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North.
