The best area of the lake to find stripers appears to be Boulder Beach, where anglers are chumming with corn to attract stripers then fishing deep with anchovies to catch fish that weigh 2 to 3 pounds. Boaters are using jigs to catch stripers that weigh about a pound from the 33 Hole to Government Wash. Some success has been had outside the tires at Lake Mead Marina.
Largemouth bass were taken over the weekend off Stewart's Point and Fish Island, according to Walt deMattos, Nevada Department of Wildlife creel census clerk. Stripers weighing up to 8 pounds were caught during the weekend around the islands in front of Echo Bay Marina. Stripers have also been caught recently at Fire Cove.
Boaters continue to connect with stripers that weigh 10 pounds or more in the Willow Beach area. The best fishing has been coming at night by casting and trolling large lures.
Anglers appear to be staying indoors rather than brave the hot weather that is being found at Cottonwood Cove. The few boaters who have taken to the water have enjoyed fair action for 12-inch stripers by trolling near Cottonwood.
Water surface temperatures averaged 73 degrees, which contributed to the rainbow trout fishing continuing to be slow.
