CCSN to host back-to-school fair
Community College of Southern Nevada, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave., will be hosting its sixth annual Community Back to School Health and Educational Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
The event will include fashion shows, performance arts, an art showcase, educational and motivational activities, various mascots, local celebrities and youth/adult entertainment showcase.
There will be more than 50 vendors on hand distributing educational/community service materials to the thousands in attendance.
Included will be entertainment throughout the day on the inside stage, in addition to free health/dental checks, school supplies, refreshments, immunizations, face painting, various mascots, free refurbished BMX Bikes with water bottles/helmets to give away and extra school supplies as door prizes and more.

Abused kids get to Rock 'n' Bowl
Oliver Crest Homes and Services for Abused Children will host the annual Las Vegas Chapter "Rock 'n' Bowl" event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Texas Station Bowling Center.
Olive Crest kids will enjoy a day of bowling, prizes, food, music and celebrities.
Rock n' Bowl for the kids of Olive Crest serves three important purposes: to raise public awareness about child abuse prevention, to raise funds to meet the needs of abused, abandoned and endangered children and teenagers cared for by Olive Crest, and to provide a day of fun for the kids. Olive Crest is seeking $25 sponsors per child to bowl.

Winchester plans drama classes
Registration is under way for the 12-week drama class beginning Sept. 20 at Winchester Community Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive.
Classes will be offered from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday for youth's 10-16 for the theater ensemble Arts Train Players.
The ensemble will meet from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday afternoons from Sept. 20 through Dec. 6. Students will prepare and perform a series of scenes to be presented to the public Dec. 13.
The $45 registration fee includes supplies, snacks, and an Arts Train t-shirt. Full and partial scholarships may be available through the center.
Students will participate in drama exercises, improvisational techniques, monologue studies, creative movement, theater skills, and various other crafts used by actors, while working toward a production to be performed on stage before a live audience in Winchester Theater. Participants do not need experience to enroll in class, but will be asked to bring a parent or guardian to the first meeting and commit to remaining in the program through the performance.

Red Rock Canyon
Visitor Center is offering a hiking survival program from 9 a.m to noon Saturday. Participants will learn basic techniques on the use of maps and compasses and what you should properly pack for a day hike. Call 515-5367 to sign up.
