The attack by Republicans on Sen. John Kerry's Vietnam record (which was never controversial before he began running for president) is indefensible.

Like all rights and privileges that we enjoy in this great country, the right to openly express one's opinion carries with it certain responsibilities -- in this case to make reasonably certain that what you say is the truth.

People who go around parroting these vile lies against Kerry are guilty of abusing that right. This is a slap in the face to all who sacrificed, including John Kerry, so that we might enjoy that right.
