Letter: Kerry realizes what’s important

After listening to all the speeches at the Democratic National Convention and the subsequent media hype, I remain a committed Washoe County Democrat.
Kerry and Edwards may lack "presidential" experience, but they both clearly understand the value of diplomatic relations as well as the cost of squandering those relations.
They will focus their attention on domestic problems first. They are committed to security and defense of our beloved country. They understand that a well-educated citizenry is essential for both security and prosperity. They are honest about the shocking disparities in health care. They are knowledgeable about the cost and availability issues regarding prescription drugs. They are able to see beyond the fundamentalist blinders regarding stem-cell and other scientific research.
President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney are no doubt decent men, but after four years of their leadership, I'm not convinced these critical issues will ever be a priority for their administration.
