Members sought for domestic violence panel
The Nevada Domestic Violence Prevention Council is seeking new members. Applications will be accepted through Aug. 20.
The mission of the council includes providing direction to the governor and the legislature on statewide domestic violence policy and legislation; increasing public awareness of the magnitude and seriousness of domestic violence and sexual assault; advocating appropriate changes in law enforcement procedure and increasing access to legal and medical services to survivors in need.
The council meets quarterly in either Reno or Las Vegas and currently consists of community members, including educators, business and health care professionals, service providers, law enforcement, judiciary, prosecutors, and advocates, as well as domestic violence victims and survivors.
The application is available on the Nevada Department of Justice Web site, http://www.ag.state.nv.us, under "Hot Topics."

Henderson Happenings guide is available
The Henderson Parks and Recreation Department announced that the fall issue of Henderson Happenings, its quarterly guide to parks and leisure opportunities, will be available starting Monday at all city recreation centers. The publication was mailed to all residences and businesses in Henderson on Wednesday.
Online registration for fall programs, workshops and events will be accepted starting Aug. 23. To register, patrons must first apply for a free online account at cityofhenderson.com/parks. Once approved, patrons receive an email with their customer ID, which enables them to register for any available program in the system. Call 267-4122.
Cops to give tips to Special Olympics
Local law enforcement personnel, officers and civilian employees, will volunteer to be celebrity waiters Friday at four statewide Red Lobster locations to raise "special tips" for Special Olympics.
The participating restaurants are 570 Marks St., Henderson; 200 S. Decatur Blvd.; 2325 E. Flamingo Road, and 3601 S. Virginia St., Reno
Law enforcement personnel will be partnered with a regular server and assist them. Customers are given the option to leave a tip, in addition to the regular server's tip, to be donated to Special Olympics Nevada.

Contest to honor hospitality projects
The Network of Executive Women in Hospitality is seeking entries for awards submissions for new construction or renovation projects completed between Jan. 1 and July 1 anywhere in the world by Southern Nevada firms working in the hospitality industry.
The awards will recognize extraordinary achievements in architecture, design and development.
Entry packages can be downloaded from the NEWH Web site and must be submitted to: NEWH Las Vegas, P.O. Box 15563, Las Vegas, NV 89114 by Sunday.
