Developers get 61 acres information
Las Vegas has sent out its request for proposals to 14 developers who might have an interest in building the 61 acres of former railroad land downtown."
The packets of information, sent Friday, describe the conditions for development, timelines, and the process. The city is to winnow down the list to two or three developers following the Sept. 7 deadline for initial proposals. Those finalists then will have 75 days to present a final proposal, City Manager Doug Selby said.
The 14 developers picked by the city to receive the requests for information include companies from overseas, the U.S., and locals. They include The Trump Organization of New York; The Related Cos. of New York; American Invesco of Chicago; Turnberry Associates of Las Vegas; Trammel Crow Co. of Oregon; The Pauls Corp. of Aurora, Colo.; Grocon Constructors of Australia.
Also receiving packets were Forest City Residential of Cleveland; Moch International of Michigan; Triple Five Group of Canada; Catellus Development Corp. of San Francisco; the Broe Companies of Denver; Mid City Urban of Silver Spring, Md.; and the Greenspun Corp. of Henderson. The Greenspun Corp. is owned by the Greenspun family, which also owns the Las Vegas Sun.
Tractor-trailers crash on I-15
Two separate accidents involving tractor-trailers on Interstate 15 slowed freeway traffic Tuesday.
At 4:45 a.m. Tuesday a truck carrying about 180 pigs was traveling from Utah southbound on I-15 and caught fire 15 miles north of Las Vegas, Trooper Loy Hixson of the Nevada Highway Patrol said.
No one was injured, but about 50 of the pigs died after flames engulfed the tractor trailer, Hixson said. According to Hixson, the driver did not know how the fire started.
About 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, another tractor-trailer traveling north on I-15 overturned in the left lane and fell onto the median near mile marker 72, about 30 miles north of Las Vegas, Hixson said.
The driver suffered minor injuries, Hixson said. The left lane was closed for one-half mile for several hours Tuesday, but traffic was light, he said.
