Gay, Lesbian center to host Honorarium
The Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada will hold its 10th annual Honorarium at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Palms. The dinner event will honor individuals and businesses making positive contributions to their community.
The center focuses on providing a safe and healthy environment for people, especially youth, to meet and interact. And offers tutoring for high school students, weekly youth meetings, outings, Senior Social Connection, referrals to other organizations, agencies and services, HIV testing and prevention outreach and counseling.
Tickets for the event are $100.

Leisure Services plans relay races
The All Comers Relay Races, hosted by the Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services, will begin with registration at 4 p.m. Aug. 14 at Cimarron-Memorial High School, 2301 N. Tenaya Way.
Four-member relay teams will enjoy races for age divisions 17 to 23, 24 to 30, 31 to 37, 38 to 44, 45 to 51, 52 to 58 and 59 plus. In the Hare Medley, a team member in their teens, 20s, 30s, and 40s, must run in the race. A special Family Medley representing these age groups also will be run.
The cost to compete will be $5 per person per race. A current photo identification card with birth date will be required at registration for each participant, as well as a signed claim waiver. Parents or guardians must sign claim waivers for minor children.
Participants may register in advance between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Leisure Services administration building, 749 Veterans Memorial Drive.

Historian speaks to Library Association
Michael Green, historian and author will give the keynote address at the 2004 Nevada Library Association Conference Friday at the Hyatt Lake Las Vegas.
The address, "What Makes Nevada Different -- Or is it Different?" will look at the history of Nevada and its largest city, Las Vegas. Politics, the economy and Nevada's image will be covered.

The Shriners have presented
The Helping Hand award to Lance Burton after his eighth benefit show of "Lance Burton & Friends" to raise money for the Zelzah Shrine Temple and the transportation fund to take Las Vegas children in need of medical care to the Shriners Hospital in Los Angeles.
