Tech heavyweights sign up for Vegas trade show

Friday, Aug. 6, 2004 | 11:10 a.m.

Comdex has been canceled for 2004, but Las Vegas remains a top draw for international technology conventions.

That was illustrated Thursday when the Virginia-based Consumer Electronics Association announced that top Intel and Microsoft executives will deliver key speeches at the 2005 International Consumer Electronics Show set for Jan. 6-9.

Bill Gates, chairman and chief software architect of Microsoft Corp., will deliver the pre-show keynote and Craig Barrett, chief executive of Intel Corp., will deliver the opening keynote.

The 2005 International CES has signed up more than 2,400 exhibitors spread throughout both the inside and outside of the Las Vegas Convention Center, the Las Vegas Hilton and the Alexis Park Resort. The 2004 CES attracted about 110,000 attendees.
