There's a wolf at the door of our financial institutions and his name is al-Qaida. The TV news reports the fear among the workers on Wall Street. The Bush administration says: Go about your business and consume. Big Brother Bush will protect you, but you should still be very, very afraid. And whatever you do, don't think about John Kerry.
Then we find the intelligence upon which the attack information is based is three years old and probably out of play.
The American people are catching on to the Bush administration's politics of fear, this strategy of "crying wolf." One wonders if our government has any clue about what al-Qaida is planning.
When the government lies about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction and its ties to al-Qaida, and then lies about a specific threat of an attack by al-Qaida, it loses all credibility.
