Blood drives scheduled
These locations will host blood drives next week for United Blood Services, 6930 W. Charleston Blvd.:
Monday: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Hilton Grand Vacations, 7160 Bermuda Road.
Tuesday: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., First National Bank of Marin, 585 Pilot Road; 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., High Tech Institute, 2320 S. Rancho Drive.
Wednesday: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Art Institute of Las Vegas, 2350 Corporate Circle, Henderson; 8 a.m. to noon, Cox Communications, 121 S. Martin Luther King Blvd.
Thursday: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Las Vegas College, 4100 W. Flamingo Road; 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Realty Management Inc., 630 Trade Center Drive.
Aug. 13: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Bill Heard Chevrolet, 444 S. Decatur Blvd.; 8 a.m to 1 p.m, Spring Valley Hospital, 5400 S. Rainbow Blvd.
Aug. 14: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Church of Latter Day Saints, 8801 W. Alexander Road; 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Spring Meadows Presbyterian, 1600 E. Oakey Blvd.; 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Regal Cinemas/Texas Station, 2102 Texas Star Lane, North Las Vegas.
Communications group event set
The Working in Communication Summer Membership Mixer will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Todd's Unique Dining, 4350 E. Sunset Road.
The event will include free food, but there is a cash bar and a $5 cover for servers' gratuities.

Free Synchronized swimming show offered in LV
Las Vegas' Department of Leisure Services invites everyone to enjoy the 20th annual Synchronized Swimming Show at 7 p.m. Thursday at Baker Pool, 1100 E. St. Louis Ave.
"Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss" is the theme of the show, in celebration of the centennial birthday of the author of classic children's books.
United States Synchronized Swimming clubs Desert Mermaids and the Las Vegas Synchronettes, as well as 11 synchronized swimming teams from the city of Las Vegas, the city of Henderson and Clark County Parks and Community Services, will perform.
Spectators are welcome to use the available seating at the pool or to bring their own portable chairs.
Participants and spectators are invited to bring new or gently used children's books to the event. The donated books will be distributed by city of Las Vegas Aquatics staff to local programs that promote childhood reading.
Admission is free.

Domestic violence prevention council seeks members
The Nevada Domestic Violence Prevention Council is seeking new members. The application is brief and submissions will be accepted through Aug. 20.
The mission of the council includes providing direction to the governor and the Legislature on statewide domestic violence policy and legislation; increasing public awareness of the magnitude and seriousness of domestic violence and sexual assault; advocating appropriate changes in law enforcement procedure and increasing access to legal and medical services to survivors in need.
Travel and per diem reimbursement are provided for official council functions.
The application is available on the Nevada Department of Justice Web site at the following link: ag.state.nv.us, under "Domestic Violence."

CCSN to offer automotive certification exams
The Community College of Southern Nevada will offer computer-based Automotive Service Excellence certification exams through Aug. 15 at the Leslie and Joan Dunn Advanced Technology Center next to Green Valley High School.
The exams are available in three areas: Automobile/Light Truck, Advanced Automobile Engine Performance and Automobile Parts.
