A special education teacher writes that one of her students is a friendly child who has trouble making friends.
"When he does make friends, he has a hard time keeping them," she writes. "He is not sure how to keep a friend."
She thinks a week at camp would be a great way for the boy to learn how to relate to others.
"Interacting with the other children at camp and the camp leaders would give him a chance to experience and use proper social skills," she writes. "Currently, school is the only outlet he has to use those skills."
A mother writes that her son has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and gets teased "because he is on the small side."
"I think getting together with other kids his age will help him be more outgoing. He took a friendship class and it was very good for him," she wrote.
The Sun Camp Fund provides scholarships so that children like these two boys whose families cannot afford to send them to camp have the chance to attend the summer getaways. All donations go directly to scholarships, as the Las Vegas Sun picks up all administrative costs.
