A 25-year-old accused of bludgeoning his neighbor to death on July 16 in a Lakes area apartment spent a week hospitalized for an apparent drug overdose after the slaying; now he's in jail and on Thursday his preliminary hearing was scheduled for Aug. 25.
Carl Henry is accused of beating 48-year-old neighbor Craig Haupt to death after Haupt refused to lend Henry $100, according to police.
After Haupt was discovered dead, Henry was found unconscious at the apartment tennis courts, apparently after overdosing on drugs, the police report says. He was taken to Southern Hills Hospital where he was treated before being sent to University Medical Center.
Deputy Public Defender Curtis Brown said Henry was released from UMC on July 23.
According to Henry's friend Martin Deville, Henry, who was scheduled to go to court for battery domestic violence on July 19, apparently wanted to see his wife prior to his court appearance. Henry wanted the $100 to help pay for his travel to Washington where Henry's wife had gone after recently leaving Henry, Deville said.
Deville is the person who called the police to inform them where Haupt's body could be found and that Henry was the man they were looking for.
