More than eight months after he was demoted, former Community College of Southern Nevada President Ron Remington may have reached a settlement in his lawsuit against the Board of Regents, his attorney said Tuesday night.
Remington's attorney, Kathleen England, said she was "cautiously optimistic" that the proposed draft of a settlement agreement she sent to Interim Chancellor Jim Rogers will be approved soon.
Rogers also said he was hopeful the matter would soon be resolved, adding that the agreement appeared to be "within reason" and in accordance with the settlement talks of the past several months.
Neither would comment on the details of the proposed agreement, as the negotiation process itself is confidential.
Rogers also said he could not comment on how or if the Board of Regents will be asked to approve the settlement agreement. Regents do not have to vote on agreements that are less than $50,000.
"It may take five days, it make take 10" to approve the contract, Rogers said. "I hope that we can get it done so that we can move on to other things."
A district judge ruled in June that the Board of Regents violated the state's open-meeting law in November when it demoted Remington on a split-vote. System attorneys are appealing the decision to the Nevada Supreme Court.
Remington's permanent replacement, Richard Carpenter, started Monday. Carpenter formerly served as the president of the Wisconsin Technical College System.
