Coroner identifies stabbing victim
A robbery victim who died Monday night after he was stabbed near Fremont Street and Eastern Avenue has been identified by the coroner's office as 28-year-old Geryon Nash of North Las Vegas.
A driver saw Nash collapse on Fremont Street and called Metro Police. Before Nash died, he told officers he had been robbed.
No arrests had been made in the case as of this morning.
Man's head grazed by bullets
A man suffered non-life threatening injuries after his head was grazed by two bullets on Stewart Avenue near Lamb Boulevard about 12:30 a.m. today.
Metro Police said they believe the shooting stemmed from a botched drug deal. The victim was taken to a hospital but his injuries are believed to be minor. No arrests have been made.
Fugitive arrested in Cleveland
A 32-year-old Las Vegas man was arrested in Cleveland on Tuesday, three years after he fled Southern Nevada while charged in the sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl, police said.
Loranzo Ray Arrington, a previously convicted sex offender, was charged by Metro Police in 2001 with 27 counts of sexual assault and molestation in the case of the local girl.
The Las Vegas office of the FBI issued a federal warrant charging Arrington with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, FBI spokesman David Nanz said.
Arrington was arrested in Cleveland and placed in the custody of the Cuyahoga County sheriff's office, Nanz said.
Arrington will be extradited to Nevada, authorities said.
Police: Man groped girl, 9
Metro Police are warning the public that they are looking for man who groped a 9-year-old girl in a store in northwest Las Vegas early last month.
The man approached the girl in the toy section of the store, at U.S. 95 and Interstate 215, on July 8, Metro Lt. Jeff Carlson said. The man grabbed the girl and she screamed for help, he said.
The man immediately ran out of the store and drove away in a white car.
On surveillance camera footage the man appears to be white and possibly Hispanic. He is about 5-feet 9-inches tall and weighs about 200 pounds, police said. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, light-colored shorts and a baseball cap.
Anyone who thinks they know who the man is can call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555 or Metro Police at 229-3421.
Deadline nears for new voters
New voters hoping to cast a ballot for the Sept. 7 primary must register by Aug. 7 if they are doing it by mail.
People also can register in person at Clark County Election offices until Aug. 17. The offices are located at 500 S. Grand Central Pkwy. in Las Vegas and 965 Trade Center Drive in North Las Vegas.
Applications are available at city clerk offices, post offices, libraries, political party headquarters, chambers of commerce, some banks and utility companies and the Clark County Elections Department.
A new Nevada law requires first-time registrants in Clark County to present identification when they register. A Nevada driver's license or identification card, military identification, a current utility bill, bank statement, paycheck or a government-issued document that lists a name and address are all acceptable forms of identification.
To request a form, call (702) 455-8683 or go to www.accessclarkcounty.com.
