New leader for Catholic Charities

Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004 | 8:16 a.m.

Catholic Charities is losing its director of homeless services to the United Way.

Frank Richo will lead the United Way's 2-1-1 project beginning Monday. It's a new initiative that uses those three digits as a telephone clearinghouse for government and nonprofit agencies providing social services, replacing dozens of separate telephone numbers.

At Catholic Charities, Richo has been replaced by Phillip Hollon, who took over Monday as residential services director, a job which includes overseeing temporary housing for senior men, employment services, meals for the homeless and the summer daytime shelter.

Hollon worked for 18 years as a supervisor of flight attendants at United Airlines in Las Vegas, a job that included involving employees in donating time and money to agencies such as United Way.

He said he took the job at Catholic Charities -- one of two large local agencies serving the homeless, along with the Salvation Army -- because he "wanted to give back to the community."
