Letter: ‘Fahrenheit 9/11’ a real eye-opener
Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004 | 9:11 a.m.
Some letter writers say the film, "Fahrenheit 9/11," is just a figment of Michael Moore's imagination, or it's simply his effort to bash President Bush on the screen. Some say this without seeing the film.
I am glad I saw the movie. I wanted to see how several things about Bush's presidency were covered or if, in fact, they were covered.
I am a registered Republican but I am not blind to what my party does in office. The only part of the Moore movie that I was not previously aware of concerned the financial connections between the Bush family and the bin Laden family. I also had not been aware of the connection between Vice President Dick Cheney and the Taliban, involving construction of a gas line.
One scene in the movie that really hit me was Bush's reaction when told of the terrorist attack on 9/11. He was in a Florida classroom, reading to elementary students. What did he do? He sat there with a dumb look on his face and did nothing for seven minutes. That, folks, is our leader in times of a crisis.
To get at the truth, go over back issues of newspapers. See what you can learn, if you open your eyes.
