English teacher charged with sexual misconduct

A Chaparral High School English teacher, who was arrested Friday and charged with two felony counts of sexual misconduct with a 17-year-old student, will appear in Las Vegas Justice Court Wednesday morning.
Kenneth Bruce Stacy, 28, is accused of having sex with the female student on July 25 at his home, according to the arrest report.
About noon Friday, school police arrested Stacy on the Chaparral High School campus, 3850 Annie Oakley Drive, near Sandhill and Viking roads, where he was teaching summer school, Officer Darnell Couthen, school district police department spokesman, said.
Stacy, an English teacher, was removed from the campus during a break between classes and booked into the Clark County Detention Center, where he remained as this morning. Bail was set at $30,000.
School administrators last Tuesday received an anonymous tip alleging that Stacy had sex with the teen, Couthen said.
When confronted by police with the student's allegations, Stacy admitted to having sex with her, the arrest report says.
"The (alleged) victim was 17 years old and a Chaparral summer school student," Couthen said. "Under state statute, teachers are prohibited from having sexual interactions with students."
Stacy has worked with the Clark County School District for a little over two years, Couthen said.
As of late June, 19 school district employees have been arrested in the past three years and charged with sex-related offenses, including possession of child pornography, molestation and rape allegations.
None of those employees had criminal records at the time they were hired, George Ann Rice, associate superintendent of human resources for the district, has said.
