Man held in attempted murder

Monday, Aug. 2, 2004 | 10:44 a.m.

A 32-year-old Las Vegas man remained jailed this morning for allegedly striking his wife with his car, then allegedly shooting a man who had been with her on a Southeast Las Vegas street, police said.

Metro Police said Carlos Hernandez was booked into the Clark County Detention Center early Sunday on charges of attempted murder and battery with a deadly weapon.

Police said the violence began shortly before 11:30 p.m. Saturday at East Flamingo and Paradise roads after Hernandez, who was sitting in a vehicle, saw the woman to whom he recently had been married get out of a vehicle with another man.

Hernandez then drove his car into his wife and shot the man who was with her, police said.

The woman was taken to University Medical Center for treatment of unspecified injuries. The man she was with was taken to an unspecified hospital with what police described as life-threatening injuries.

The names of the victims were not released. Because of new federal laws designed to protect the privacy of individuals, hospitals cannot release patient conditions without names. As a result, updated conditions on the victims were not available today.
