Three-time felon gets 15 years
A three-time convicted felon from California was sentenced to 15 years in prison Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Las Vegas.
Daniel Torres Carrion, 30, was arrested by Henderson Police in December 2002 and charged with one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
A federal judge determined that Carrion was an armed career criminal because he had previously been convicted of three violent criminal offenses: assaulting a peace officer, second-degree robbery and receiving stolen property.
Those designated as armed career criminals face a 15-year minimum prison sentence. Carrion was also ordered to serve five years of supervised release following his prison term.
