Friday, April 30, 2004 | 11:09 a.m.

CARSON CITY -- Gov. Kenny Guinn today announced the appointment of Edward E. Goldman, an administrator in the Clark County School District, to the Taxicab Authority, which oversees the cab industry in Southern Nevada.

Goldman, 53, of Henderson replaces Lia Roberts of Las Vegas, who resigned to run for president of her native Romania. Goldman will serve until June 30, 2006.

Goldman, associate superintendent of the Education Services Division in the School District, said he was "humbled and honored" at being asked by the governor to serve.

Guinn said Goldman "will bring a unique perspective to the Taxicab Authority."

"His background as a skilled administrator with a keen eye for detail should prove to be quite beneficial to the Taxicab Authority."

Goldman has served as dean of students at Woodbury Junior High School and as assistant principal at Bonanza High School.

He was chief negotiator and assistant superintendent for administrative operation and regional superintendent of the School District.

He has a doctorate of education from UNLV.

The Taxicab Authority decides the allocation of cabs, issues permits to drivers and investigates alleged violations.

The authority has a budget of $4.9 million for this fiscal year and $5.1 million next fiscal year.
