Ritz-Carlton eyes long-term growth in LV
Tuesday, April 27, 2004 | 10:34 a.m.
An official with Ritz-Carlton today said the Maryland-based company "envisions" a second Las Vegas-area property on the Strip, but there are no immediate plans for such a project.
"It's something (Ritz-Carlton President Simon Cooper) thinks would make a lot of sense, but there are is nothing immediate happening," spokeswoman Vivian Deuschl said.
She said high-end properties are in demand as the economy begins to rise while luxury room inventory remain low nationally with little or no building taking place in recent years.
Other high-end properties on the Strip include the Four Seasons Hotel at Mandalay Bay and the newly announced Conrad property being built by Hilton Hotels Corp. on the north end of the Strip.
"It makes sense right now," she said of the local luxury market.
Any new hotel in Las Vegas would be in addition to the company's Lake Las Vegas property.
"It would be a second property," Deuschl said. "Lake Las Vegas has exceeded all of our expectations. It isn't going anywhere."
