Henderson celebrates heritage with parade

Henderson's Springsational Heritage Parade is set to take place Saturday in downtown Henderson along Water Street.
The parade, themed "My Favorite Thing About Henderson," begins at 10 a.m. and will feature floats representing area elementary, middle and high schools as well as marching bands, drill teams, special interest vehicles, marching groups, horses and additional floats from area businesses and organizations.
A total of $5,000 in prize money, including a $2,500 prize for first place, $1,500 for second place and $1,000 for third place, will be awarded to the top three floats in the parade.
An awards ceremony will immediately follow the parade.
More than 20 members of the family of the late Gov. Mike O'Callaghan will serve as grand marshals for the parade.
O'Callaghan family members scheduled to appear in the parade include O'Callaghan's wife, Carolyn, his five children and their spouses and many of his 15 grandchildren.
Mayor Jim Gibson and Henderson City Council members will host the Mayor and Council Pancake Breakfast, preceding the parade at 8 a.m. on the front lawn of the Henderson Convention Center, 200 S. Water St.
