Mary Queen Arnoldsen

Mary Queen Arnoldsen, 81, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospice. She was born June 22, 1922, in British Columbia. A resident for 48 years, she was a retired registered nurse.

She is survived by her husband, Ronald E.; three daughters, Sandra of Las Vegas, Karen of San Diego and Marilyn of Henderson; five sons, Rodney, David, Greg, Mark and Bruce, all of Las Vegas; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.

Velma G. Benard

Velma G. Benard, 75, of North Las Vegas died Friday in North Las Vegas. She was born April 15, 1929, in Epps, La. A resident for 51 years, she was a retired maid.

She is survived by her husband, James; three daughters, Irma Smith, Mary Hart and Sheila Benard, and one sister, Elizabeth Woods, all of Las Vegas; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 2 to 7 p.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Palm Chapel, Main. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Park.

Leo Birnberg

Leo Birnberg, 70, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. He was born June 28, 1933, in the Bronx, N.Y. A resident for seven years, he was a retired regional sales manager in the fastener industry.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine; two daughters, Iris Marsh of Keyport, N.J., and Sharon Birnberg of Red Bank, N.J.; and two grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at King David Memorial Chapel & Cemetery, 2697 Eldorado Lane. Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., handled arrangements.

Arland Drew Dunn

Arland Drew Dunn, 65, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born April 12, 1939, in Madera, Calif. A resident for eight months, he was a chief executive officer in the financing industry.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Ann; two daughters, Deborah Kelly of Palmdale, Calif., and Jeanna Williams of Newbury Park, Calif.; one son, Mike Dunn of Sylmar, Calif.; three stepsons, Robert Smart of Chatsworth, Calif., Richard Smart of Las Vegas and Ronald Smart of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; one stepdaughter, Tamara Smart of Las Vegas; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

Wilbur Edward Emrick Sr.

Wilbur Edward Emrick Sr., 72, of Henderson died Monday in a local hospice. He was born Oct. 14, 1931, in Danville, Pa. A resident for 10 years, he was a mechanical engineer at Raytheon, an Army veteran and a member of American Legion Post 40.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; two sons, William A. and Wilbur Edward "Ed" Jr.; two daughters, Robin Dougherty and Laura Emrick; one sister, Cathy Emrick; and 11 grandchildren.

Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling private arrangements.

Rita Ervin

Rita Ervin, 60, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. A social worker and involved with Head Start, she was born Nov. 16, 1943, in Mexico.

She is survived by two sons, Gilberto Carrera and Robert Hernandez, both of Las Vegas.

No local services are scheduled. Burial will be in Ontario, Calif. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

Joy A. Ford

Joy A. Ford, 89, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born Dec. 14, 1914, in Texas. A resident for 34 years, she was a retired registered nurse and also worked for the Metro Police crime lab.

She is survived by one daughter, Carol Heidt of Las Vegas.

Elwood Galon Jr.

Elwood Galon Jr., 66, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 13, 1938, in the Bronx, N.Y. A resident for 26 years, he was a retired Air Force master sergeant and Korean War and Vietnam War veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Malai; three daughters, Frinzella Davis of Kansas, Theresa Carroll of Arizona and Malee Mae Macorncan of Las Vegas; four sons, Anthony Galon of Nevada, Jurawat Chiangjiapoh and Pattana Chiangjiapoh, both of Thailand, and Mark Galon of Las Vegas; one brother, Ronnie Galon of Atlanta; one sister, Cathy Galon of New York; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 2 p.m. until a 5 p.m. service Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

Fairfax N. Giles

Fairfax N. Giles, 80, of Henderson died Monday in Henderson. She was born Jan. 9, 1924, in San Antonio. A resident for 12 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, John P. Giles of Henderson and William N. Giles of Las Vegas; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 10-11 a.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Graveside services will follow in Palm Memorial Park, Henderson.

Jack E. Gilman

Jack E. Gilman, 82, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. He was born Oct. 8, 1921, in Chicago. A resident for five years, he was a retired owner-operator of retail stores in Hammond, Ind., for 35 years, a World War II Army veteran and a member of Sun City Community Association.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne F.; two sons, Paul Gilman of Phoenix and Stuart Gilman of Lake Forest, Ill.; one stepson, Robert Popper of Mokena, Ill.; one stepdaughter, Diane Sloan of Glenwood, Ill.; and four grandchildren.

Parke D. Hardgrove Sr., 81, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospice. He was born Dec. 28, 1922, in Akron, Ohio. A resident for 14 years, he was a retired distillery supervisor, a World War II Army veteran and a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by one son, Parke Dickson Hardgrove Jr. of Flowery Branch, Ga.; two daughters, Cheri Kimble of Surprise, Ariz., and Kim Hardgrove of Las Vegas; and two grandchildren.

Charles Lee Hillman Sr.

Charles Lee Hillman Sr., 60, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. He was born May 25, 1943, in Indiana. A resident for 27 years, he was a painter and a member of Local 159.

He is survived by his wife, Ramona Jean; three sons, Randal, Charles Jr. and Randy; one daughter, Darsi; two brothers, Monte and Ronald; one sister, Gloria; and five grandchildren.

David Waller Lien

David Waller Lien, 48, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born June 1, 1955, in Hawaii. A resident for six years, he was a musician.

He is survived by his wife, Diane Therese; three daughters, Joelle Lien, Danielle Lien and Melody Lien, all of Las Vegas; two brothers, Johnny of Washington state and Timmy Lien of Honolulu; and four sisters, Kathy Halpren of Las Vegas, Jackie Lien of Kauai, Hawaii, Carolyn Kokoo of Honolulu and Pauline Pollard of California.

Keith Alvin Losser, 57, of Las Vegas died Sunday. He was born June 8, 1946, in Salt Lake City. A resident for 14 years, he was an electrical engineer.

He is survived by his wife, Jamie; and two daughters, Alissa and Charlotte.

Vivian M. McIntire

Vivian M. McIntire, 79, of Boulder City died Saturday in a local hospital. She was born Aug. 30, 1924, in Detroit. A resident for 25 years, she was a homemaker.

Chester W. Middleton

Chester W. Middleton, 61, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born Nov. 19, 1942, in Ohio. A resident for 35 years, he was a retired slot floorman and a Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Liyuan; one son, William; one daughter, Kimberly; one stepdaughter, Sheila; one brother, Jay; one sister, Mary Joe; and one grandchild.

A memorial service is being arranged by Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

Gerarda Moulton

Gerarda Moulton, 79, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born Feb. 27, 1925, in the Philippines. A resident for 31 years, she was a seamstress.

She is survived by four sons, Victor Moulton and Tristan Moulton, both of Las Vegas, David Moulton of Pahrump and Robert E. Moulton Jr. of Green Acres, Fla.; one brother, Burr Tiongson of the Philippines; one sister, Obing Tiongson of Las Vegas; and two grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. Graveside services will follow in Paradise Memorial Gardens.

Gordon Parsons

Gordon Parsons, 84, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 1, 1920, in Silverton, Ore. A resident for 17 years, he was a retired owner-operator of an automobile dealership and a World War II Army Air Corps veteran.

He is survived by one daughter, Nancy Parsons of Terre Haute, Ind.

Kelly Patton

Kelly Patton, 35, of Las Vegas died April 14 in Las Vegas. She was born July 7, 1968, in Oakland, Calif. A resident for 12 years, she was a customer service representative for a transportation company.

She is survived by her husband, Gregory; two sons, Gregory Patton Jr. and Jay Van Stanfield, her mother, Minnette Griffin, and one sister, Dennia Griffin, all of Las Vegas.

Visitation is scheduled 4-7 p.m. Thursday in American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in True Love Missionary Baptist Church, 1941 H. St. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Robert G. Randolph

Robert G. Randolph, 82, of Las Vegas died April 10 in Las Vegas. He was born July 20, 1921, in Staten Island, N.Y. A resident for four years, he was a retired electrical engineer and a World War II Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Jose; and two daughters, Francis Maria Wilson of Pennsylvania and Connie Zamora of Las Vegas.

The family will be receiving guests one hour prior to a 1 p.m. memorial service Sunday in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

Robert Santa Cruz

Robert Santa Cruz, 76, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospice. He was born March 28, 1928, in Carlsbad, N.M. A resident for 40 years, he was a retired heavy equipment mechanic at the Nevada Test Site.

He is survived by his wife, Elisa; five sons, Mario Santa Cruz, Eric Smith and Steven Smith, all of Las Vegas, and Robert Santa Cruz and Ron Santa Cruz, both of Tucson; four daughters, Kristina Santa Cruz and Pandora Nunez, both of Las Vegas, Pamela Kain of Mount Vernon, Wash., and Cynthia Santa Cruz of Tucson; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Louise M. Smith, 84, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospice. She was born Nov. 4, 1919, in California. A resident for 45 years, she was the assistant city treasurer for Las Vegas.

She is survived by one daughter, Jan Alldridge; one sister, Charlotte Stewart; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Jane Ann Stoiber, 74, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospice. She was born July 14, 1929, in Neosho, Mo. A resident for 15 years, she was a retired bank teller.

She is survived by her husband, Edmund; two sons, Randy Clark of Texas and Jack Clark of Oklahoma; three brothers, Charles Reed of Washington, Foster Reed of Texas and George Reed of Florida.

Richard Alan Szlamczynski

Richard Alan Szlamczynski, 38, of Boulder City died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born Aug. 24, 1965, in Syracuse, N.Y. A resident for nine years, he was a manager for Albertsons, a journeyman carpenter and a member of Carpenters Local 1977.

He is survived by his wife, Kim; his father, Gerald Szlamczynski of Syracuse; his mother and stepfather, Pauline and Hiram Jones of Boulder City; eight brothers, Joe Szlamczynski of Cazinovia N.Y., Mike Szlamczynski of Cicero N.Y., Steve Fiore Jr. of Sumerlin, N.Y., Nicholas Fiore of Henderson, Scott Szlamczynski of Fulton, N.Y., and Gerald Szlamczynski, Mark Szlamczynski and Christopher Szlamczynski, all of Syracuse; six sisters, Angela Fiore of Fulton, Amy Mardis of Great Falls, Mont., Maria Fiore of Boulder City, and Karie Szlamczynski, Sharon Szlamczynski and Kay Szlamczynski, all of Syracuse.

Charles S. Turner, 85, of Boulder City died Monday in Boulder City. He was born March 4, 1919, in Cummins, Ark. A resident for two years, he was a painter for California, a World War II Pacific Theater veteran and a member of the 7th Infantry Division Association.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Vinnie; three sons, Edwin Scott Turner of Marysville, Wash., Richard Lee Turner of Boulder City, and Michael Ray Turner of Tucson; one daughter, Patricia Childress of Boulder City; one sister, Martina Turner of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and 10 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. April 27 at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Boulder City Family Mortuary, 833 Nevada Way, Suite 1, handled arrangements.

Abel F. Velarde Sr.

Abel F. Velarde Sr., 69, of Henderson died Sunday in a local care center. He was born July 10, 1934, in Canjilon, N.M. A resident for 15 years, he was a retired saw mill stacker operator.

He is survived by two daughters, Ramona Gonzales and Cora Dixon, both of Henderson; two sons, Valentino Velarde and Abel Velarde Jr., both of Montrose, Colo.; one brother, Arsenio Velarde of Salt Lake City; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were scheduled at 2 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson.

John Ventura

John Ventura, 71, of North Las Vegas died Monday in North Las Vegas. He was born Aug. 16, 1932, in New York City. A resident for 34 years, he was a security chief for an asphalt company and a Korean War Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Concetta; two sons, Nicholas Ventura of North Las Vegas and John Ventura of Las Vegas; three daughters, Ann Marie Barone of Henderson, Aurora Scott of Las Vegas and Alicia Canedo of Henderson; two sisters, Assunta Siclare and Serafina Hoffmann, both of Staten Island, N.Y.; and 10 grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 9 a.m. until a 6 p.m. service Friday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

Mary Ann Warlick, 94, of Henderson died Sunday in Henderson. She was born April 3, 1910, in Edmonton, Alberta. A resident for 29 years, she was a homemaker, a life member and secretary of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, secretary for Beta Sigma Phi and a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 40 in Henderson.

She is survived by two daughters, Larita Watson of Henderson and Georgia Barrett of Las Vegas; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 4-7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Palm Chapel, Eastern. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

Thelma Helena Winder

Thelma Helena Winder, 88, of Las Vegas died April 14 in Las Vegas. She was born Feb. 2, 1916, in Danville, Ill. A resident for 24 years, she was a retired casino accountant.

She is survived by three stepdaughters, Sally Right, Judy Rose and Ann Arutio, all of Colorado.

No local services are scheduled. Burial will be in Denver. Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

Devora Wrencher

Devora Wrencher, 54, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospice. She was born Jan. 1, 1950, in Marks, Miss. A resident for four months, she was a food server.

She is survived by one brother, John Thomas Wrencher Jr. of Chicago; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Thursday at American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at New Antioch Christian Fellowship, 3950 N. Las Vegas Blvd. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
