DALLAS -- Continental Airlines raised a surcharge on many round-trip flights to $30 on Tuesday, citing higher fuel costs, and the move was quickly matched by American Airlines.
Houston-based Continental said the increase, from $20 per round trip, took effect immediately on most travel within the United States and Canada.
Both Continental and American raised the surcharge on one-way tickets from $10 to $15. American said the surcharge did not apply to certain sale fares, government tickets and free flights redeemed by members of frequent-flier clubs.
